In some private clubs and societies, membership was once decided by secret ballot: a white ball signaled acceptance; a single black ball could deny entry. From this practice came the verb to blackball.

BLACKBALL is a playful reimagining—not a historical reenactment, divination service, or decision authority. Here, rejection becomes attention: the black ball marks the possibility asking to be examined more closely.
